TODAY (12 January 1902) Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale was born in the Gursikh household of Baba Roor Singh Ji and Mata Anand Kaur Ji at the ambrosial hours (2.30am).
At the tender age of 13 months, Sant Ji’s mother Mata Anand Kaur Ji left their body and Sant Ji was taken care of by their grandmother who used to read the paath of Panj Granthi to Sant Ji everyday.
This caused Sant Ji to grow up with immense love for the Guru and the urge to study the meanings of Gurbani. Sant Ji then completed their senthia and became an ‘Akhand Paathi’ by the age of 7 due to the fluency in their reading. After studying the meanings of Gurbani, Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji started the Katha of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and had completed 4 Kathas by the age of 25.
It was then Sant Ji joined Damdami Taksal under the guidance of the 11th Leader, Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. In the span of 8 years and 6 months, Sant Ji was taught the meanings of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Sarbloh Granth, Sri Gur Nanak Perkash, Sri Gurpertap Suraj Granth, Bhai Gurdas Ji Vaaran & Kabitt, Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s Compositions, Gurbilas Patshahi 6 & 10, Saarkutavali, Vichar Sagar, Yog Vedaant, Moksh Panth Perkash and Many other Granths of knowledge.
After Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji left for Sachkhand in 1930, Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale was given the leardership of Damdami Taksal. During His time as a Leader, Sant Ji went around the whole country teaching the Sikhs meaning of Gurbani and History. Thus, people would refer to Damdami Taksal as the ‘Walking University’ of the Panth. During their lifetime, Sant Ji completed 27 Detailed Kathas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji along with the Katha of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji, Bhai Gurdas Ji’s Compositions and many other historical Granths. Sant Ji’s contribution to the Panth cannot be described as they have taught countless people and trained many Gursikhs who later on did Parchar in Takhats and various countries abroad.

We, at Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Academy will forever be indebted to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji for sending his Beloved Sikh, Saint, An Ocean of Knowledge, Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji to this world and bless us with the True Knowledge of Gurbani that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji taught themselves at Damdama Sahib. Sant Ji will always be an inspiration for us to continue with Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s blessings, the True Parchar of Gurbani and History.
